What's your favourite music era?
I wasn't old enough to really know much about music in the 80's, so for me it has to be the early 00's.

Garage, American Grunge, RNB were my genres of choice, some absolute bangers made around that time.

You cunts?

I went to both a prog rock gig and a disco in 1977 ( first gigs) and have been going to gigs/clubs ever since. Best club I ever went to was in Cuba. Last gig Iwent to before Covid was a neo soul/jazz gig about a year ago at the Scala in Kings Cross but managed a gig at The Jazz Cafe in the Autumn.

Canโ€™t wait for unlock.

There has never been a best time although the whole rave scene was pretty fucking mental. The Tories fucked that off as quick as they could.

Oh God yes.

I had three lined up before lock down. One has been cancelled completely, one is now Nov this year and the other (which has now been postponed twice) has gone to October 2022.
Also miss rocking up to my local jam night and making some stupid noise. It is all well and good noodling around at home (learnt Ukulele) but it is not the same.

My favourite era is 67-74 for the psych/hippy/space/kruat rock. Love early Floyd, Gong, Hawkwind, Neu!, Kraftwerk and the Canterbury bands. Punk was my first awakening but I went back to the earlier music in my late teens/early twenties and still love it.
Now is pretty damn good too. My tastes go from classical through psych, electronica, doom, prog, grindcore, black metal and all points in between. There is a hell of a lot of bloody good new music about.

What is the truth about rock music? Music is a powerful and perhaps the
Most powerful medium in the world. Music. Plato says when the music
Of a society changes, the whole society will change. Aristotle, a contemporary
Of Plato's, says when music changes there should be laws to govern the
Nature and the character of that music. Lenin says that the best and the
Quickest way to undermine any society is through it's music... Music, ladies
And gentleman, is the gift of God it was given to man to offer praises
To God and to lift us up to him and to exalt Him to touch the tender
Recesses of our hearts and of our minds. Satan has taken music and he has
Counterfeited it, convoluted it, twisted it, exploited it and now he's
Using it to hammer, hammer, hammer, hammer, hammer a message into the minds
And the lifestyles of this generation."

Re: What's your favourite MUSIC era?
For me it depends if one means singles or albums.

in terms of what was in the singles charts then I'd say the period 1977-1982 probably had the greatest vitality.

in terms of great albums, I'd say the last 30 years or so has been a golden era of great progressive rock albums.

Re: What's your favourite MUSIC era?
The 70s.

You had Led Zeppelin and David Bowie in their prime. The Who producing their best stuff. Punk, New Wave and The Jam. Black Sabbath. Pink Floyd. It was the Golden Age.

Old school Hip Hop 83-90 is probably my thang!

But I listen to stuff from the 50's till the 90's*
Saw most bands live especially Oasis.

Favourite band - Pearl Jam.

*Excludes the Beatles.

Re: What's your favourite MUSIC era?
Punk & early to mid 80s

Exeter wasn't blessed with too much to do but the alternative club there (Timepiece) was brilliant. The DJ there when I used to go there (more mid eighties) was John Peel like in spotting bands early on and playing them, long before they became names, and used to also play stuff by those bands that you could properly dance to, not like a lot of the DJs then and since who only play the same one or two records no matter what fucking band they're playing. Here's a song by the best band to come out of Manchester...bungs on second skin by the Chameleons.

They were good times, dry ice, tenner for a night worth of drink, girls dressed like they'd just walked off a J&MC video, chips in pitta bread for the 2 mile walk home

They were happy days
